SPEAKERS PROFILES:

Harry Wu, veteran campaigner for human rights and former prisoner, he personally suffered the horrors of detention in the Chinese Laogai prison system for 19 years. He is now at the forefront of exposing the Laogai system and has documented numerous Laogai camps, detention centers and instances of Laogai produced goods being exported abroad. In 1995 he was detained and later sentenced to 15 years imprisonment, but after broad international attention he was subsequently deported to the United States. He is denounced as China's 'No. 1 troublemaker' and is on a secret most wanted list. He currently serves as the Executive Director of the Laogai Research Foundation.

Peter Xu Yongze, founder of one of the largest Christian movements in China, referred to as 'the Billy Graham of China'. He was arrested and imprisoned five times for over seven years in China and experienced severe torture and persecution. He was also a witness to the death and mistreatment of others in detention. His sister, Deborah one of the most prominent women in the house church in China, is currently facing particular persecution for her religious activities and was arrested on 24th January this year.

Brother Yun, one of the leading figures in the Chinese house church, now the author of the best-selling autobiography 'The Heavenly Man'. Brother Yun spent most of his life in China on the run and was imprisoned for lengthy terms on several occasions. He suffered incredible brutality, torture, hardship and persecution. On the final occasion his legs were broken and he was held in a high security prison, facing long-term imprisonment. He now lives in the West and is a popular international speaker.

Bob Fu, President of China Aid Association, a key agency documenting the persecution of the Church in China. He was a house church leader in Beijing until he and his wife were detained for 'illegal religious activities'. After release they fled to the West to avoid imminent further persecution for their faith. He has a wealth of information and documentation on religious persecution in China today. He currently serves as a visiting professor at Oklahoma Wesleyan University.

Joseph Kung is the nephew of the late Cardinal Kung of China and President and founder of the authoritative Cardinal Kung Foundation. He lobbied for thirty years for his uncle, who was detained in solitary confinement, eventually able to take him to the United States in his old age. He is an authority on the persecution of the underground Catholic Church in China, documenting and raising awareness of the frequent arrest, detention and other forms of harsh treatment meted out against underground Chinese Catholics.

The meeting will be chaired by Lord Chan of Oxon, Member of the British Parliament, House of Lords, Chairman of Chinese in Britain National Forum and Chairman of the Chinese Overseas Christian Mission.
