      From the Director . . .

It is during this special time of year that many of us pause to express our appreciation to the special people in our lives. Today, I have that exceptional privilege. A heartfelt thank you is expressed from myself and our teams working around the world. None of what we have come to believe are miracles could have happened without your generous financial support.

We are sincerely grateful because during this past year we have seen many aspects of our vision become a marvelous reality. Clearly, we have come a long way!

But the considerable task before us is a constant reminder of how much more is yet to be accomplished. Brutality, it seems, never takes a holiday. However, our commitment, to eliminate needless suffering by changing lives for the betterment of all thus making the world a better place, remains firm.

Needless to say that most of us, myself included, are extremely grateful to live in America. Opportunities abound in this country. We are some of the richest, healthiest, and best educated people in the world.

Since this is a special season of giving will you please remember to share some of your good fortune with someone else less fortunate? We offer our appreciation on behalf of those men, women and children you will never meet but who truly appreciate your compassion. Together we can continue making a difference!
Advent Candles Wishing you and yours a joyous Holiday Season and a healthy, prosperous New Year!

A look at the future of Africa
Clearly, we are pleased with the results of our Kenyan teams´ efforts and plan to continue most aspects of our program to abolish female genital mutilation. However, after several discussions we have decided to include the following during 1999
- Open a local office to serve as a focal point.
- Involve adolescent males through sports events, music concerts and talent shows.
- Maintain a booth during market days where volunteers will distribute educational and promotional material.
- Emphasize the family issue concept.
- Broaden our efforts by reaching further into the interior.
- Seek out new networking opportunities.
