In 1997, the New Hope Women´s Center in Siliguri, West Bengal opened. Here, women currently attend literacy and sewing classes. Enrollment quickly swelled from thirty to fifty students. Its first Christmas was celebrated with cookies and a bowl of rice for everyone. This facility is intended to become a safe haven for Nepali prostitutes (young girls 12-15 years of age) redeemed from Bombay´s Red Light District. |
